Malfeitona rocks her head to rock, dances to pagodão and swears on her life that Salvador’s carnival is more intense than any metal festival in existence. The artist works in music as a DJ and singer, in addition to being the creator and artistic director of the Malfestona and Saborrr party.
A dark tropical child and teenager: while she found herself musically in the aggressiveness and aesthetics of rock, metal and the “do it yourself” method of punk, she was also influenced by the popular music of her surroundings. The artist grew up in the working-class neighborhood of Engenho Velho de Brotas, where “Bahian pagodão, axé and arrocha” were present day and night. Thus, by osmosis, she fell in love with the chaos and flavor of street parties and Bahian music.
Although she had never taken music lessons, she studied using tutorials on the internet and asked for help from friends who knew more. She drew guitar necks and keyboards on cardboard and practiced on real instruments, borrowing them or even renting them (a friend would rent his guitar for R$5). Her hobby was composing and recording songs and homemade videos.
Malfeitona tried her hand at music many times: at the age of 14, she created the metal band Valinor with her best friends, which after years of rehearsals only performed once at school. Throughout her life, she was part of bands and musical projects, covers and originals, and made special appearances in shows and songs by friends’ bands as a singer, in addition to having produced band events and parties.
Malfeitona is currently a singer, DJ and creative director of the Malfestona and Saborrr parties, as well as a guest for shows and recordings in musical projects such as Sebastianismos and the Chora e Rebola carnival party and block.
In 2020, she released the pop-punk song “Se Nem Deus Agrada Todo Mundo, Muito Menos Eu”, which she performed at Rock in Rio with her husband, Sebastian, from the band Francisco, el Hombre, and “Roqueira no Paredão”, a collaboration with the controversial artist A Travestis. The latter, a mix of Bahian pagodão and heavy metal, was one of the most voted songs for the Salvador carnival, coming in fourth place.
Malfestona is a “rock and roll” party with female and LGBTQIAP+ protagonism where Malfeitona and the DJs play rock, pop and pop-punk remixed with Brazilian Latin rhythms, such as funk, reggaeton, piseiro, cumbia and, of course, Bahian pagodão. The party started in an online and free format during the Covid19 pandemic as a way for Malfeitona to entertain her friends and followers who were at home and expanded to in-person editions in several cities in Brazil and around the world, such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Feira de Santana, Porto (Portugal) and Warsaw (Poland).
